SYNOPSIS
With introductions from Executive Producer Emmy Award Winning Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, and filmed in New York, London, Toronto and Kingston, Jamaica, The Rhythm of Jamaican Art is a documentary that celebrates the history, the present and the future of Jamaican artists in Jamaica, and the diaspora, with a focus on the struggles and triumphs of emerging Jamaican Artists while speaking to the state of the Jamaican/Caribbean Art ecosystem.
Included in the conversation are perspectives of experienced leaders and experts shaping the industry. The Rhythm of Jamaican Art is written and directed by award-winning director John Campbell and produced by John Campbell, JCINTIME, LLC and by Tiana Webb-Evans, Jamaica Art Society, LLC.
The documentary showcases the rich culture and history of Jamaican Art through engaging conversations with the notable National Gallery of Jamaica Chief Curator O’Neil Lawrence, Ashley James (associate curator Guggenheim Museum), Edna Manley College of the Performing and Visual Arts History Department and historian Dr. Petrina Dacres.
The leaders of the next generation of Jamaican artists from Jamaica, the US, Canada and the UK are featured including notable Jamaican artists Nari Ward, Marlene Barnett, Phillip Thomas and Paul Anthony Smith. The Rhythm of Jamaican Art also features various commentary from educators, collectors, artists, and critics including Rianna Jade Parker.
