Ayoka Chenzira is an Emmy and NAACP Award-nominated director, writer, and producer, a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Directors Guild of America, and a pioneer of Black independent cinema. She is widely recognized as one of the first Black women to write, direct, and produce a 35mm feature film, Alma’s Rainbow, recently restored by the Academy.
Ayoka’s episodic television directing credits include Queen Sugar (OWN), Trinkets (Netflix), Greenleaf (OWN), A League of Their Own (Amazon/Sony), Kindred (FX/Hulu), Dynasty (CW), and Beacon 23 (MGM). Her upcoming limited series, Joseph of Egypt, a prequel to The Chosen, is scheduled for release in 2027 on Amazon.
Ayoka is currently directing OLF, her latest feature film, where she is applying an audience-led financing approach, bringing audiences into the process early, building momentum, and creating a new pathway for project development.
